Pichet Klunchun Dance Company (Thailand) - Tam Kai
Tam Kai is based on a story from the Ramayana: Phra Lor. A beautiful cock lured a prince to two princesses, which has fatal consequences. Choreographer Pichet Klunchun sees a parallel with the Khon, the classical dance of Thailand. The public is lured into a dead end by the beauty of the exquisite dance with its rigid laws. Klunchun is looking for a combination of tradition and modernity, just like world star [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akram_Khan_ (dancer) Akram Khan] does with the classical Kathak from North India. He searches for a contemporary, vibrant and creative Khon. All the dancers give their own interpretation to the music played by Boon Young Katkong, master of the ranad ek (alto xylophone).
