Living Dance Studio (China) - Listening to Third Grandmother’s Stories
While searching for the memories that the rest of her family has forgotten, Wen Hui found her third grandmother. She is the only living relative of her grandparents’ generation. She is Wen Hui’s father’s aunt, her great-aunt, but no one ever mentioned her to her. Last winter Wen Hui discovered her in a village in the mountains of Yunnan. Her name is Su Meiling and she is eighty-three years old. Wen stayed with her and she told her about her life. Through her stories Wen could see how China’s great changes changed one woman’s life.
Sue descended from a prosperous family, which gave trouble during the communism in China. Under pressure of the collectivism, she had to learn to be just like the community. For Wen Hui, it was the reverse when the communism slowly became less strict. With their personal memories, they write the contemporary history of women in China.
